Swellmeter Trending API
Free API + MCP server · paid keys from $5

Every Google trending search, all day, 30 countries

What people are searching for right now in 30 countries, plus what Google's own feed forgets: every topic that trended today or on any of the last 30 days, when it first appeared, its peak traffic, which countries share it, and the news behind it. For newsrooms, content teams, marketers and AI agents. 50 free calls a day, no key; plans from $5 (one-time pack) or $19/month.

Limits, plainly

Free and rate limited so it stays fast for everyone. Interest over time for your own keywords (rising/falling verdict, related and breakout searches, top regions) is a different job: the Swellmeter tool on the Apify Store does it per keyword (https://apify.com/cybermax/google-trends).

  • Up to 5 countries per call; 10 calls a minute per IP on the free tier.
  • Free tier: 50 calls a day per IP, no key. Paid keys from $5 (one-time pack) or $19/month (see Get an API key).
  • Each API call counts once, whatever the number of rows. /api/countries is free. Failed calls are not counted.
  • Source: Google's public "Trending now" RSS feed, which lists the 10 newest trending searches per country. We read each country about every 15 minutes and keep what scrolls off: the day list and 30 days of history (history starts 1 Oct 2026). Traffic is Google's own rounded lower bound (e.g. "2000+").
  • Not affiliated with Google. Keyword interest-over-time is not in this API (see the Apify tool).

How the price compares

Per call (one call = one country list, up to 5 countries). Rival prices were read from their public pricing pages on 1 Oct 2026.

SerpApi (Google Trends Trending Now API)$25/month Starter; $75/month Developer1,000 / 5,000 searches a month$25.00 / $15.00

SerpApi and the Apify tools fetch Google live on each call; Swellmeter answers from its own snapshots, read about every 15 minutes per country, and adds what the live feed drops: the full day list, first seen, peak traffic, cross-country topics and 30 days of history.

Need interest over time for your own keywords?

The Swellmeter tool on the Apify Store takes any keywords and returns a rising/falling/spiking verdict with % change, peak, breakout searches and top regions from Google Trends, with a monitor mode for weekly checks.

Keys work on the REST API and the MCP server.

FAQ

Why not SerpApi?

SerpApi's Google Trends Trending Now API is a good live scraper; its plans start at $25/month for 1,000 searches and $75/month for 5,000 (serpapi.com/pricing, 1 Oct 2026). Swellmeter's Watcher key is $19/month for 6,000 calls, and each answer carries history SerpApi does not keep: when a search first appeared, its peak traffic, and every topic of the day.

Why not read Google's RSS feed myself?

You can: it is public and lists the 10 newest trending searches per country. It forgets everything older, and it has no first-seen time, no peak traffic, no cross-country view and no search. Swellmeter reads all 30 countries for you about every 15 minutes and keeps 30 days.

How fresh is it?

Each country is read about every 15 minutes. Every answer says how old its snapshot is (snapshots.ageMinutes); /api/countries shows the last read per country.

What does approxTraffic mean?

Google's own rounded estimate of searches, as a lower bound ("2000+" means at least 2,000). traffic is the same number as an integer for sorting.

Can I get interest over time for my own keywords?

Not from this API. That is the Swellmeter tool on the Apify Store: keyword in, rising/falling verdict, % change, peak, breakout searches and top regions out (https://apify.com/cybermax/google-trends).

Is there a key or a cost?

The free tier needs no key: 50 calls a day per IP. Paid keys: pay as you go: $5 for 1,500 calls that never expire (no subscription); or monthly: Watcher $19/month for 6,000 calls, Desk $49/month for 25,000 calls, Platform $99/month for 75,000 calls. Yearly billing gives 2 months free. Every API call counts once (up to 5 countries per call); /api/countries is free. Send the key as the x-api-key header. No surprise overage charges; cancel any time.

Can I use it from Claude, Cursor or another AI agent?

Yes. Add the MCP server URL below (with your key as a Bearer token for paid limits). Tools: trending_now, trending_day, cross_country_trends, topic_history and countries.

Where does the data come from, and is it legal to use?

From Google Trends' public "Trending now" RSS feed, read at a polite rate (one request per country about every 15 minutes) and stored by us; news links point to the publishers. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.
